Help make Amelia Cragen's wish come true. Amelia was officially diagnosed with PKAN disease at the age of four after symptoms started developing when she was a year old. Nick, Amelia's father is dedicated to giving Amelia the best life possible, despite her disease. Watching them together will melt your heart as they have a special bond that just radiates love and joy. PKAN is a rare disorder caused by mutations in the PANK2 gene. It is the most common form of NBIA disorders. (Neurodegeneration with Brain Iron Accumulation). Children diagnosed with Classic PKAN may have a more rapid progression of symptoms. Initially, they can be perceived as clumsy & later develop more noticeable problems with walking. Most cases of PKAN result in requiring a wheelchair by their mid-teens due to the inability to move or walk independently. Symptoms could also include poor vision or complete vision loss. With no known cure, this disease is slowly overtaking Amelia's body. Her condition has progressed to the point that she can no longer talk, but is still very aware of everything going on around her. Doctors gave Amelia an expected life span of 10 years, but she is defying the odds by turning 11 on April 28th. Amelia loves animals, especially her Miniature Herefords. We want to give Amelia the gift of experiencing the Miniature Hereford Junior Nationals. Her animals are going to be picked up and trailered to Duncan, OK and the MHBA is covering all her entry fees.
