There are several different methods of interpreting traffic to a web site.
HITS: The number of files that are downloaded when an individual visits each page. For example, the Breeders' World Beef Page actually counts as 24 hits (the page file plus each graphic file that is downloaded).

PAGE VIEWS: The combined number of pages that are viewed by all visitors. A large, informative site should expect each visitor to view 5-10 pages per visit.

UNIQUE VISITORS: The actual number of individual people that are coming to the site during a given time. This could be compared to the number of people walking through the front door of a store.
The Breeders' World calculates traffic based on Unique Visitors, insuring clients that they are getting the most accurate assessment of traffic possible.
