  • Ultrasounding is a faster, more cost effective means of collecting carcass trait data as opposed to the more traditional carcass data collection methods.
     
    A non-invasive procedure which can be used on breeding animals (bulls and replacement heifers) as well as slaughter candidates.
     
    Yearling cattle are the most appropriate candidates for carcass trait ultrasound. Age windows vary by breed and breeders should contact respective breed associations for age specifics.
     
    Iowa State University currently operates a central processing program for carcass trait data collected via ultrasound. It's application toward the development of carcass trait epd's is association dependant.
