Breeding Stock by Rupperts Corriedales

At Ruppert's Corriedales and Cormo Sheep, we strive for Corriedale sheep that are consistently correct, straight topped, long bodied and sound on their feet and legs. With our recent introduction of Australian Corriedale breeding, our Corriedales now have unmatched fleece quality. We have two lamb crops each year, one in the fall and one in the spring. Our Cormo sheep are selected primarily for their high-quality fleeces.

Our AI Program

Our wool quality took a giant leap forward with the introduction of semen from 2 sires of the Liberton Corriedale flock in Victoria, Australia. Jim and Brenda Venters (www.liberton.com.au) were kind enough to share the wonderful Liberton Corriedales genetics, with their beautiful, soft and lustrous fleeces, with our Corriedale flock. We recently introduced semen from 2 additional Liberton rams, including P10, a national winner in Australia. See his picture and pedigree at the Venters' website. Thanks again to Martin Dally (www.toprams.com) for his AI assistance. We invite you to stop by the farm to see the results.

Introducing Our Cormo Flock
Cormo Ram
We started our Cormo flock in 2001 with six brood ewes and a ram from Sue Reuser's California Cormo flock. Since that time we have doubled our number of ewes and added a ram with Ingrid Albert's breeding. We have just purchased a very stylish, correct ram with a dazzling fleece from Alice Fields' flock in Lee, Massachusetts.

Our Cormos are selected exclusively for wool quality to serve the most discriminating handspinner.

About the Corriedale Breed

Corriedale Ewe with Lambs Corriedales originated in New Zealand as the result of crossing Merino (fine-wooled) ewes with English Lincoln long-wool rams. The goal was to establish a true dual-purpose breed that combined the best traits of the wool breeds and the meat breeds.

The result is a sheep that excels in commercial returns, yielding a dense, uniform fleece with pronounced character as well as a high-quality carcass.

Corriedale sheep are stylish, well balanced, heavy shearing, growthy and hardy. They adapt well to a wide variety of geographic regions and production systems.

Corriedale Ewe Corriedale ewes...
  • are early maturing and can be bred as lambs
  • possess outstanding mothering ability
  • have a high multiple birth rate
  • possess excellent potential for fall lambing
For more information on Corriedales, visit Ohio State University or the American Corriedale Association.
